The Continuing Crisis: House passed $6.5 billion FY01 supplemental appropriation Weds by a vote of 341-87. $5.5 billion is for defense; no floor amendments effecting the defense portion. Senate Appropriations to mark-up today.
$5.5 billion to address defense needs, including:
$734 million to address the Pentagon's rising energy costs. | |
$1.65 billion to avoid severe disruptions in the military health care program, $200 million more than the request. | |
$2.2 billion to address readiness and operations requirements. | |
$55 million to improve substandard housing and utility facilities for our troops stationed in Korea. | |
$47 million to implement the Department of Defense's energy conservation plan in California and the Western United States. | |
$44 million to repair damages to the USS Cole. | |
$36 million to help recover the bodies of the victims of the EHIME MARU | |
$40 million in emergency disaster assistance for damage sustained at U.S. Military Installations |
$92 million to address additional operational costs incurred by the Coast Guard, the same as the President’s request. | |
$44.2 million to avert a potential deficit in House Members Representational Allowances |
