Since we are discussing compensation, a member of Congress, Michael Capuano, D-Mass, has introduced legislation, The Military Tax Credit Act of 2001, that would significantly reduce the tax burden on members of the military. As someone who pays hefty taxes, I support this legislation as it will benefit every member of the military. I encourage all to tell your elected representative to support this bill.
Some may say that the military should be tax exempt. I disagree. As citizens, it is important that soldiers pay a share of the tax burden, lest we be accused of being less than frugal with the public funds entrusted to us. I only speak of the lower level troops, not the self-important Plutocrats on the Potomac.
