History has always been my favorite subject at school and so were my history teachers. I had a point of getting in and out knowledge about the subject. In fact, back in my high school, I had to Arts stream, because I wanted to go deeper in history and wanted to carry my further studies in the same subject. I am not underestimate any other subject, but there is much to know in history. One can as far as possible to the subject. Finally, I reached my goal at the topic from the core to study and I have many interesting facts to know. A few of them are as follows:
History is the study of the past. The subject consists of topics related to collection, discovery and presentation of facts about past events. The scholars who study the past and write about them are called historians. Events that occurred in the past, but before they were written are called prehistory.
Among scholars, Herodotus, a fifth century BC Greek historian, called the father of History. He formed the basis for the modern study of history with his contemporary Thucydides.
Among the famous historian Sima Qian of the world are from China, St. Augustine, Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel from Greece, from the Arab Ibn Khaldun, Lawrence Stone, Robert Fogel, etc. History has already tried dragged to the social sciences by many scholars, but after many arguments by Donald Creighton, Hugh Trevor-Roper, Gerhard Ritter, John Luke and Gertrude decided that history is art. The concept of quantitative history was introduced by French historians by associating Annales School. They were prominent in the establishment of cultural history, using raw data to the lives of typical people simultaneously to follow. Herbert Butterfield, Ernst Nolte and George Mosse be regarded as the intellectual historians who have argued for the importance of ideas in history. Scholars such as Detlev Peukert, Ian Kershaw and Martin Broszat studied and discovered how the ordinary people of the 20th century, in particular the Nazi period used to their daily lives to spend. Even Karl Marx’s theories have been verified by examination of the history from a Marxist perspective by Marxist historians such as CLR James, EP Thompson, Eugene D. Genovese, Arno J. Mayer, Rodney Hilton, etc. Although, anti-Marxist interpretation of history has also been done by scholars such as Roland Mousnier, Francois Furet, JCD Clark, Robert Conquest, etc. Even feminist historians did not stay behind. They argued about the importance of studying about the women and their struggle in history. Part of the feminist historians Natalie Zemon Davis, Claudia Koonz, Gerda Lerner, Sheila Rowbotham, Lynn Hunt, Gisela Bock and Elizabeth Fox-Genovese.
History can be further divided into Military History, History of religion, social history, cultural history, diplomatic history, economic history, environmental history, world history, People’s History, Historiometry, gender history, public history Pseudo history, etc.
The topic has always given importance and is still included as important as other subjects. A student of Arts stream to choose the topic because it is one of the compulsory courses of the stream. The subject is compulsory for all pupils of primary and secondary education in schools.
