Modern Conflict

The Reality

Trinitarian warfare--the warfare envisioned by Clausewitz--is with us today, but in a form that most military professionals and most scholars have failed to understand. Van Crevald, this century’s successor to Clausewitz, has it right--World War III started 20 years ago--it is a war between governments and gangs.

This new world war is being carried out within a global environment that is increasingly fragile with failed states, complex emergencies, modern plagues, refugees, and starvation.

We must look at Clausewitz in a new way, and structure ourselves to defer to the natural leaders of each region around the globe while dramatically increasing our investments in

diplomacy,

economic relations, and

home front defense including economic counter-espionage and crime-fighting.

TRANSITION: To be effective, we must understand strategy.
